Banana Republic at The Lord Studley Hotel 14 Nov 1993 PREVIEW

Banana Republic at The Lord Studley Hotel. 14 Nov 1993 Walk back towards Kew, but initially in Collingwood and Abbotsford where I dropped into the Lord Studley Hotel. 14 Nov 1993. I had videoed Puffing Billy earlier in the day. It starts at the end of the Belgrave train line. However I seem to have been walking from Victoria Park Station in Johnson St Collingwood towards Kew. That is on the Epping and Hurstbridge line which is totally different to to the Belgrave/Lilydale line and getting off at Hawthorn that I would have expected to get back to Kew, especially as I started at Hawthorn for the Puffing Billy journey, which of course you can see at this YouTube site. However the film I obtained, particularly of the following band at the Lord Studley Hotel, made it all worthwhile. Band Banana Republic at The Lord Studley Hotel. This was a good size hotel in Johnson St Abbotsford, just over river from Kew where Studley Park Road, changes its name to Johnson St as it enters Abbotsford. The hotel is no more. Rather it is now a building used for teaching cooking and hospitality courses and some of my migration clients are graduates of it. I tried recently to research Lord Studley but I could not find much. There seems to have been a Lord Studley Hotel in the UK. In Kew there is Studley Park Road, which I used to travel a lot when I was at Burke Hall, and also there is Studley Park itself, obviously named after Lord Studley, which is a very large park in Kew bordering the Yarra River, Studley Park is also the name of the electoral ward for local government. I spent the first 11 years of my life at 75 High Street Kew, which is in the Studley Park Ward, with my nine brothers (yes there were eventually 10 sons, and no sisters) and parents. There is also a Studley Avenue running off Studley Park Road. I lived with my family at 29 Studley Park Road in the 100 square Carnegie mansion which we owned from 1963 to 1966. After dad chopped off the front block the address became 4 Cameron Court. So there are a lot of places named after Lord Studley, but I know almost nothing about him, even though I did google search with very little result. This may be only film I have done at the Lord Studley so it was good to find it here. Anthopny Clarke 5th January 2018. Songs from Banana Republic (a term made famous by Paul Keating). Of course I never want to see the Repugnant Republic surface in Australia. This Banana Republic does a good job with their songs: End of a track. 10CCs Dreadlock Holiday; Take Me to the April Sun in Cuba.; Jamming; Jam On – Zimbabwe; I Ain’t No Grocery Man – an original; Without Love-Long Train Running; Wild Thing; (start only).
Puffing Billy 14 Nov 1993 PREVIEW

Puffing Billy 14 Nov 1993. I remember there was soot still in my camera for a year or more after making this wonderful video!! Puffing Billy is an old stream tourist narrow gauge train that runs from Belgrave station to Emerald and Lakeside in Victoria about 20 miles east of Melbourne. When I was at Burke Hall (the Kew Xavier Preparatory School) in 1961- 65, one of teachers was Pop Irish. He was a World War 1 veteran. He lived in these hills (I think in Cockatoo) and took this train daily to Belgrave, and the suburban train to Hawthorn, then two trams and a bus to get to the school. It seemed to take him at least two hours each way. We all liked Pop Irish who had us all singing World War I songs. Hawthorn Station. Train to Belgrave. Puffing Billy at Belgrave on its narrow gauge railway, on its way to Emerald.. I picked up a Melbourne Tourist Guide in Jan 2018. It shows Puffing Billy still runs daily (except Christmas Day), and now goes all the way to Gembrook, which was the original end of the line. Now you can still travel in these quaint carriages and it appears you can still hang your legs out of the carriages!. OH&S does not seem to have upset things! Also now you travel in enclosed carriages and have the daily Steam & Cuisine Luncheon and one of the many evening dining experiences. At about 11 min into the film: Goanna: Standing On A Platform. At about 20 min into the film: Albert Hammond: I’m A Train. At about 30 min where the other Puffing Billy train passes us, which is travelling from Emerald to Belgrave. At about 32 min into the film Poco: Crazy Eyes, as we continue to Emerald, and Lakeside. Lakeside. Model Railway and Trams.
Carlsrue Station Victoria 3rd Nov 1993 PREVIEW

Carlsrue Station Victoria 3rd November 1993 – A film that is a piece of Victorian Railway History. And look at all the old cars on the roads as well! This disused station was the junction station for trains to leave the Bendigo line and to go to Daylesford. The Daylesford line has been closed for many years. There is a tourist train that runs from Daylesford to Trentham or Maldon, or perhaps both. Indeed this line should be rebuilt and re-opened for travellers to and from Daylesford and towns in between. It would be quite successful now that Dayslesford is quite a large town. Nowadays in 2017, they run a daily bus from Daylesford to Ballan on the Ballarat train line instead. One service in the morning to Ballan and another back in the late afternoon. That is a totally inadequate service. We were looking at the train station with the view of taking a long term lease and renovating the building. In the end we did not go ahead with this. Someone else got it and it may be that it is lived in still. People on the trip: Mum{ Nancy Catherine Clarke. Dad: Calvert Croxson Clarke. Ballan Dome Labyrintths 26 Dec 2017 PREVIEW

Ballan Dome Labyrintths 26 Dec 2017 Come and walk my labyrinths. They are at my dome house just at the back of Ballan Train Station. All trains from Melbourne to Ballarat, Wendouree, Ararat and Maryborough and back again stop at Ballan Train station. This means during the day there is a train every hour to Ballan. Ballan has two pubs and five other places for meals in the town itself, and also KFC and McDonalds on the highway. So it is a great place for a day trip to walk labyrinths and enjoy a meal or afternoon tea. You can walk the labyrinths at any time of the day. Just pop the $5 entry into the big post box in front the dome and enjoy the walks. It is advisable to wear footwear as there are some stones and you are walking on grass. I am also happy to discuss events e.g marriages and music events in the labyrinths. This has been a very big project for me to get to this stage. So help me make it a success. I may even organise some dome house tours as well. Tony Clarke 0425 717 250.
